Booking a Tesla Robotaxi from your phone
The Robotaxi app handles the whole trip: you type a destination inside the service area, check the estimated fare and wait time, and a Model Y shows up with an empty driver's seat. You match the license plate, hop in, buckle up and tap Start Ride on your phone or the rear screen. The car waits seven minutes at the pickup point, then moves on.

The fare formula fits in one line: $3.25 base plus $1 per mile, with no time-based billing. A 2-mile hop costs $5.25, a 5-mile trip $8.25. Rideshare analytics firm Obi measured a median Tesla fare of $7.39 in the Bay Area, against $12.99 on Lyft, $14.94 on Uber and $17.25 on Waymo.
