Nine months after its peace deal with Warner, Suno delivers on the fine print. The AI music startup just swapped out every old model for a new v6 family, built on licensed music.

The lineup includes v6, the reliable flagship, v6-wild, an experimental variant with less predictable output, and v6-mini, free for everyone. The first two require a Pro or Premier plan, priced at $8 and $24 per month in the US.

Crucially, these models never touched the data behind previous versions. They rely on licensed catalogs from Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe, plus user data. The old models head into retirement.

What Suno v6 changes for creators

You can now edit one section of a song with a plain-language command. Stem separation, samples, and prompts from text, images or video round out the toolkit.

Rights holders also get paid when their catalogs power a v6 creation. That single detail matters more than any benchmark: AI music finally pays its bills.

The lawsuits against Suno are far from over

Universal Music Group and Sony are still suing, and singer-songwriter Jason Isbell leads a class action. In Germany, a court already ruled that Suno infringed copyright in the GEMA case.

The timing stings a little: the reveal lands right after Suno admitted past training on YouTube videos. So the company now lives a double life, licensed label partner on one side, accused mass scraper on the other.

With $819 million raised and a $2.45 billion valuation, Suno can afford the fight. Rival Udio settled with Warner and Universal too, so licensed training looks like the whole sector's exit ramp, while the war on AI slop rages elsewhere.

Partially. The v6-mini model is available to everyone at no cost, while v6 and v6-wild require a Pro ($8/month) or Premier ($24/month) subscription.

Why did Suno retire its old AI models?

Its November 2025 settlement with Warner required licensed models and the removal of versions trained without permission. The full switch to v6 makes good on that commitment.
