Solaris, the app that exists only as pixels

Unveiled on August 31, Solaris is the first of what Runway calls its Interface World Models. Instead of code that a browser executes, the model synthesizes each interface frame in real time. Every click, drag, or typed command triggers the next image.

Under the hood, a language model decides what should happen next. The world model, built on Runway's Gen-4.5 video engine, then draws the result at 720p. The target sits under 500 milliseconds per frame, in line with the GWM-1 project Runway started in late 2025.

Why Solaris looks nothing like Lovable or Bolt

Vercel's v0, Lovable, and Bolt also turn prompts into apps. All of them, though, still write code as a middle step, then run it the classic way.

Solaris skips that translation: the screen is the software, full stop. Honestly, it feels like an operating system built out of lucid dreams, and I mean that as praise. The whole industry keeps prodding the interface layer, and Anthropic just gave Claude a built-in browser that handles the web for you.

Solaris remains a preview, not a product

Runway frames this as research, with early access granted by request. In its internal study, 250 evaluators preferred Solaris over interfaces coded by Claude in 61 percent of instruction-following tests. No third party has verified those numbers yet.
